How sponsorship marketplaces work
Traditionally, finding a sponsor has meant writing to local businesses one at a time, relying on personal contacts or paying an agency that is usually more interested in large properties than in a grassroots football club or a weekend festival. A sponsorship marketplace changes that by bringing both sides into one place. Rights holders present what they have to offer in a consistent, searchable format, and brands that are actively looking for sponsorship opportunities can find them without having to know who to ask.
On Spontzer, everything happens on spontzer.com, where rights holders join, build listings and manage enquiries, and brands create a free profile to browse and make contact. The steps summarised above give you the short version, and the sections below explain each stage in more detail.
Joining and building your listing
Your journey as a rights holder starts by joining on spontzer.com and choosing a monthly or annual membership, both of which are explained on our pricing page. Once you are a member, you can create as many listings as you need, one for each opportunity you want to offer. A cricket club might list its shirt sponsorship, its boundary boards and its junior section separately, while a podcaster might list a single series or a run of episodes.
Each listing comes with a detailed digital prospectus. This is where you explain who you are, who your audience is, what a sponsor receives and how you would like to work with them. You can add multiple photos and video, which matter more than many people expect, because they show a brand the reality of your crowd, your stage or your community. The more specific and honest the prospectus is, the easier it is for a brand to see how a partnership would work for them.
- Describe your audience clearly, including where they are based, their age range and what they are interested in.
- List the benefits a sponsor receives, such as logo placement, social media mentions, hospitality or naming rights.
- Offer more than one level of package, so smaller businesses have a way in.
- Use recent, good quality photos and a short video that show the opportunity in action.
Listing review and promotion
Before a listing goes live, it is reviewed. The review makes sure each listing reads clearly and presents a genuine opportunity, which helps brands trust what they are browsing and gives you the chance to tidy anything up before brands see it.
Once your listing is live, Spontzer actively promotes it to the brand network. Brands who have signed up to hear about new opportunities receive automatic notifications, so your listing can reach marketing managers and business owners who are already thinking about sponsorship. This is the main difference between a marketplace and simply posting an appeal on social media, because the people seeing your listing are the people who are looking.
Enquiries, messaging and agreeing a deal
When a brand is interested, it contacts you directly through the platform. Secure messaging lets you talk through what the brand wants to achieve, answer questions about your audience and adjust a package if needed. Direct contact matters, because sponsorship works best when both sides understand each other rather than communicating through intermediaries.
From there, you and the brand agree the terms between you. That might be a straightforward package from your prospectus or something tailored to a particular campaign. If you would like help thinking through how to structure a package or a deal, Spontzer can offer guidance. Our article on how to pitch to sponsors also covers what brands tend to look for in these conversations.
What rights holders pay and the brand success fee
As a rights holder, your only cost is your membership, at £99 a month or £599 a year. Spontzer takes no success fee or commission from you, so you receive the full agreed value of every deal. When a deal is agreed through the platform, the brand pays a 10% success fee on top of the agreed value of the rights. For example, if a brand and a club agree £5,000 for the rights, the brand pays £5,500 in total, the club receives the full £5,000 and Spontzer's fee is £500.
Because the fee sits on the brand's side, you can price your packages on what they are worth to you without building in a margin for us. Brands factor the fee into their budget when they plan a deal, and no fee is charged at all if no deal is agreed.
How it works for brands
Brands join Spontzer for free by creating a profile on spontzer.com. From there, they can browse listings and filter them to find the right kind of property, whether that is a local sports team, a community event, a music venue or a podcast with a loyal audience. Automatic notifications let brands hear about new opportunities as they are listed, so they do not need to keep checking back.
When a brand finds something that fits, it contacts the rights holder directly, discusses the details through secure messaging and agrees a deal. Brands can manage the whole deal flow on the platform and use secure payment options when they are ready. Brand membership costs nothing, and when a deal is agreed the brand pays a 10% success fee on top of the agreed price, so it is worth factoring that into the sponsorship budget. No fee is charged if no deal is agreed. You can read more on our page for brands.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I join and create my listings?
Joining, listing and browsing all happen on spontzer.com. Rights holders choose a membership there and build their listings, and brands create a free profile to browse and make contact.
Why are listings reviewed before they go live?
The review helps each listing read clearly and present a genuine opportunity. That gives brands confidence in what they are browsing and gives your listing the best chance of making a good impression.
Do brands contact me directly?
Yes. Brands contact rights holders directly through the platform and use secure messaging to discuss the details. There is no middle layer between you and the brand.
What does Spontzer charge when a deal is agreed?
Rights holders pay no success fee or commission, so your only cost is your membership and you receive the full agreed value of every deal. The brand pays a 10% success fee on top of the agreed value, so on a £5,000 deal the brand pays £5,500 in total, you receive £5,000 and Spontzer's fee is £500. No success fee is charged on enquiries that do not lead to a deal.
Can Spontzer help me put a sponsorship package together?
Spontzer can offer guidance on structuring packages and deals, helping you think through what to include and how to present it. The final terms are always agreed between you and the brand.
